Are we doing the right thing or are we doing nothing?

This has really been a bad news week. It seemed that every news cast and every phone call was bad news.

Since so many things have happened this week that have touched so many people in our world, in our community, and in our church, it should be a reminder that life on earth is temporary.  Even if you live to be 100, it's still just temporary.

Are you sure that everything is ok with your relationship with the Lord? Do you have a personal relationship with the Lord?

Maybe the events of this week should remind us that's the only thing that really matters. What have you done with Jesus who died to forgive you of your sins and bridge that relationship back to God?

I hope you have settled that question and know for sure that you have a relationship with the Lord. The next question is: Are you living for Him so that others will want that same relationship?

Like I started, I know this has been a difficult week so I want to share a Scripture that I hope will be helpful.

2Co 12:9  But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness."

I don't know about you, but I need an extra boost of sufficient grace today. Thank you LORD.

Prov. 12:26 says, "A righteous man is cautious in friendship, but the way of the wicked leads them astray."

This tells us how very important it is that we are cautious in picking our friends. We need to be sure that we are hanging out with people who believe the way we believe, think the way we think, and behave with way God would want us to. The second part of this verse tells us how easy it is to be led astray if we keep company with people who do not believe the way we believe, think the way we think, and behave with way God would want us to.

Prov. 17:17a  says, "A friend loves at all times."   To me, this means that when we choose to do the right thing, "the best thing", instead of going along with the crowd; true friends will love me anyway. If our friends cannot accept our standing up for what we believe in or accept our saying "no" because it is better for our well being…maybe they really aren't true friends after all.

And this leads us to Prov. 18:24 which says, "A man of many companions may come to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother." We may have many companions but are they true friends? There is a friend who sticks closer than a brother and His name is Jesus. Others may leave you but He won't.

John 15:13 says, "Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends." Jesus did that for us. He is our friend.

Jesus said in John 15:14, "you are my friends if you do what I command."
