Genesis Chapter 1

   New American Standard Bible

1  In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. [gsn] [mhcc] [jfb] [jwc] [tsk]   2  The earth was formless and void, and darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was moving over the surface of the waters. [gsn] [jfb] [jwc] [tsk]   3  Then God said, "Let there be light"; and there was light. [gsn] [mhcc] [jfb] [jwc] [tsk]   4  God saw that the light was good; and God separated the light from the darkness. [jfb] [tsk]   5  God called the light day, and the darkness He called night. And there was evening and there was morning, one day. [jfb] [tsk]   6  Then God said, "Let there be an expanse in the midst of the waters, and let it separate the waters from the waters." [mhcc] [jfb] [jwc] [tsk]   7  God made the expanse, and separated the waters which were below the expanse from the waters which were above the expanse; and it was so. [gsn] [tsk]   8  God called the expanse heaven. And there was evening and there was morning, a second day. [gsn] [tsk]   9  Then God said, "Let the waters below the heavens be gathered into one place, and let the dry land appear"; and it was so. [jfb] [jwc] [tsk]   10  God called the dry land earth, and the gathering of the waters He called seas; and God saw that it was good. [tsk]   11  Then God said, "Let the earth sprout vegetation: plants yielding seed, I and fruit trees on the earth bearing fruit after their kind with seed in them"; and it was so. [gsn] [jfb] [tsk]   12  The earth brought forth vegetation, plants yielding seed after their kind, and trees bearing fruit with seed in them, after their kind; and God saw that it was good. [gsn] [tsk]   13  There was evening and there was morning, a third day. [tsk]   14  Then God said, "Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night, and let them be for signs and for seasons and for days and years; [gsn] [mhcc] [jfb] [jwc] [tsk]   15  and let them be for lights in the expanse of the heavens to give light on the earth"; and it was so. [tsk]   16  God made the two great lights, the greater light to govern the day, and the lesser light to govern the night; I He made the stars also. [gsn] [jfb] [tsk]   17  God placed them in the expanse of the heavens to give light on the earth, [tsk]   18  and to govern the day and the night, and to separate the light from the darkness; and God saw that it was good. [tsk]   19  There was evening and there was morning, a fourth day. [tsk]   20  Then God said, "Let the waters teem with swarms of living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth in the open expanse of the heavens." [gsn] [mhcc] [jfb] [jwc] [tsk]   21  God created the great sea monsters and every living creature that moves, with which the waters swarmed after their kind, and every winged bird after its kind; and God saw that it was good. [gsn] [tsk]   22  God blessed them, saying, "Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let birds multiply on the earth." [gsn] [tsk]   23  There was evening and there was morning, a fifth day. [tsk]   24  Then God said, "Let the earth bring forth living creatures after their kind: cattle and creeping things and beasts of the earth after their kind"; and it was so. [jfb] [jwc] [tsk]   25  God made the beasts of the earth after their kind, and the cattle after their kind, and everything that creeps on the ground after its kind; and God saw that it was good. [tsk]   26  Then God said, "Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; and let them rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over the cattle and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth." [gsn] [mhcc] [jfb] [jwc] [tsk]   27  God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. [tsk]   28  God blessed them; and God said to them, "Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it; and rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over every living thing that moves on the earth." [gsn] [jfb] [tsk]   29  Then God said, "Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the surface of all the earth, and every tree which has fruit yielding seed; it shall be food for you; [gsn] [mhcc] [jwc] [tsk]   30  and to every beast of the earth and to every bird of the sky and to every thing that moves on the earth which has life, I I have given every green plant for food"; and it was so. [tsk]   31  God saw all that He had made, and behold, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day. [mhcc] [jwc] [tsk]

Are you ready?

Ready for What?

There is a time coming when life as you currently know it will be over. So what happens then? Does everything end? Is everything just over? Well, maybe... but what if it isn't? What if you're wrong? What if, when you die, you find yourself standing before an all righteous judge who's standard for acceptance is complete perfection? Not just pretty good but complete perfection! Then what? Will He accept you or reject you? Are you perfect, or just pretty good?

The Good News!
Well, there's good news! It's called the Gospel. And this good news says that, because of what Christ has done, we can be forgiven, be accepted by God and can live forever with Him.

Are You Willing?
But this gift of forgiveness and eternal life cannot be yours unless you willingly accept it. God requires an individual response from you. The following verses from the Bible show God's part and yours in this process:

  • Who is good?
  • "As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one" (Romans 3:10)
  • Who has sinned?
  • "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23)
  • What are my options?
  • "For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." (Romans 6:23)
  • But I'm a sinner, how?
  • "But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
  • What should I do?
  • "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved." (Romans 10:9)
  • Is this really for me?
  • "For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved." (Romans 10:13)

I think I get it, but what do I do?
1) Realize you are a sinner in need of a savior.
2) Repent; ask for forgiveness and turn from your sins.
3) Ask Jesus to come into your life and be your savior.

You might pray something like this:

"Father, I know I am a sinner in need of a savior, and I know if I die in my sin, I will be eternally separated from you in Hell. I know your Son Jesus was the only one capable of paying my sin debt, and I know He died for me on the cross and rose again three days later and is now sitting at your right hand! I ask you to please forgive me of my sins and I ask Jesus to come into my life and be my savior. I trust in Him completely for this and will now do what He says!    In Jesus name, Amen."

OK, What now?
1) Now that you are a Christian, rejoice and tell someone.
2) Pray! Pray about everything, asking the Lord for His help and guidance.
3) If you don't have a Christian Bible, get one and read it every day. It contains God's words, and through it, the Holy Spirit will teach you how to live.
4) Find a local Bible believing and teaching church and get involved! Attend it regularly and serve where you can. This will help you grow as a Christian.
5) Find Christian friends to fellowship with! They will encourage you and you can encourage them. They will also help keep you on the right path.

Nothing can take the place of Prayer, Bible Study, Service and Fellowship. These are of primary importance. They are not rules to follow that will save you, Christ has already done that, if you have put your trust in Him. But they are key to living a life that will honor God! And maybe one day, you will hear Him say "Well done, thou good and faithful servant" (Matthew 25:21) If you have any other questions, please feel free to email us at: office@rsbaptist.org! We'd love to hear from you, and to help in any way we can.
